I Love Cheadle Hulme’s Public Transport

One of the very many reasons why Cheadle Hulme is such a fantastic place to live and work is that, although a village, bigger towns and cities are within very easy reach for work thanks to our fantastic public transport network – as well as Manchester International Airport virtually round the corner.

Trains

Cheadle Hulme Station is on the West Coast Main Line and is operated by Northern Rail. The first Cheadle Hulme station opened in 1842 when the Manchester and Birmingham railway to Crewe was opened, and is now a private residence which can be still seen from Heathbank Road. Once the line was extended to Macclesfield, and afterwards Stoke, around 1945, a new station was built, in its current location on Station Road. There is car parking available locally, but as you’d expect, it fills up quickly during the week.

The advent of the new railways contributed to transforming Cheadle Hulme from a small hamlet into a busy village with a population of around 30,000. Cheadle Hulme station is central and accessible, with four platforms linked by a pedestrian bridge and lifts to facilitate disabled access.

There are three trains an hour into Manchester (and back again), calling at Stockport, Heaton Chapel and Levenshulme en-route. In the opposite direction, trains run hourly on the Stoke line, visiting Bramhall and Poynton as well as Macclesfield. On the Crewe line, one train per hour runs to Alderley Edge, serving Handforth and Wilmslow, and another train per hour which calls at those same stations before continuing on to Crewe.

Buses

Including the useful but restricted school and college-only services (serving Reaseheath College, Loreto College, Poynton High, Bramhall High, as well as Cheadle Hulme High and St James amongst others) there are several bus routes for transport to and from Cheadle Hulme. Timetables for specific buses can be found at the Bus Times Leaflet Library but the following buses are frequent and handy:
